Lab Assistant (Pre-Analytical Assistant II)
Responsibilities
- Solves more complex problems on a routine basis.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of how Specimen Processing and Tech Ops impact testing departments and result quality.
- Identifies problems with specimen types vs test orders, missing information, improperly positioned bar code labels, etc. with regard to load building, aliquoting, and test add processing.
- Completes all required written documentation such that it is understandable to others, legible and within the assigned time frame.
- Learns additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to ensure cross-functional support.
- Adheres to all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and compliance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which requires developing the ability to research test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
- Sorts, racks, picks up and delivers specimens to the laboratory, specimen storage, operates centrifuge, aliquots.
Qualifications
- One year experience in a laboratory environment or a production setting.
- Knowledge of medical background required which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
- Familiarity with personal computers, basic Windows-based software.
About the Role
The Pre-Analytical Assistant II in the Tech Ops Department is responsible for knowing all of the functions of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I, plus additional functions. This role meets or exceeds productivity and quality standards for Pre-Analytical Assistant I and solves more complex problems on a routine basis.

Pay and Schedule
Pay range: $17.75+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.
