Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist (Part Time, Evenings)

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist is responsible for providing skilled specimen collection via venipuncture and capillary sticks while delivering exceptional customer service as the face of the laboratory. Responsibilities include receiving and processing samples, packaging samples for send-outs, distributing in-house samples to testing benches, and performing clerical tasks such as computer data entry, telephone reception, and other general lab duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on pediatric and infant patients.
• Receive, process, and distribute laboratory samples for testing.
• Package samples for external send-outs.
• Perform clerical tasks including data entry, telephone reception, and general lab duties.
• Operate lab equipment and ensure proper handling of specimens.

Requirements

• Minimum one (1) year of phlebotomy experience.
• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; graduation from a Phlebotomist Tech training program preferred.
• Certified Phlebotomist Tech 1 (California) licensure.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work as part of a team and handle stressful situations with poise.
• Proficiency in human venipuncture techniques and lab equipment operation.
• Knowledge of computer systems and software used in laboratory settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) or more years of infant/pediatric blood collection experience.
• Completion of some college-level courses.

Work Environment

• Light to moderate physical demand, including lifting and carrying 25-35 lbs and pushing/pulling 50-100 lbs (e.g., empty beds, stretchers).
• Frequent bending, carrying objects, keyboard use, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, and wrist motion.
• Occasional squatting, kneeling, crawling, twisting, and overhead reaching.
• Exposure to airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, extreme noise, temperature variations, radiation, and uneven surfaces.
• Sensory requirements include color discrimination, depth perception, near and far vision, and hearing.

Pay

Pay range: Minimum $23.00, Midpoint $29.64, Maximum $36.28. Rate of pay is determined by factors including knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, and position requirements.
