Responsibilities
- Blood Collection: Collect blood samples from patients using appropriate venipuncture techniques.
- Patient Interaction: Explain the procedure, answer questions, and alleviate patient fears or concerns.
- Specimen Handling: Label and organize specimens accurately, record necessary information, and maintain specimen integrity.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment, follow infection control protocols, and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Maintain Stock Levels: Monitor and restock phlebotomy supplies.
- Compliance and Documentation: Adhere to legal and ethical standards, maintain accurate records, and ensure patient confidentiality.
- Safety Procedures: Follow infection control protocols, wear PPE, and dispose of biohazardous waste according to safety guidelines.
- Continuous Education: Participate in continuing education programs to stay updated with the latest techniques and practices.
- External Specimen Processing: Receive, collect, and process specimens from external outreach accounts.
- Order Management: Enter and manage laboratory orders in software for outreach samples.
- Tracking: Track specimen receipt, processing, and result completion for outreach clients.
- Result Communication: Fax finalized laboratory results and scan reports into the outpatient portal.
- Client Follow-Up: Provide timely result communication and follow-up to clients and providers.
- Workflow Coordination: Support outreach workflow coordination to ensure timely turnaround times and high client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification from an accredited institution is required.
- Twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months of related experience is required.
- Background in medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology is required.
