JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients according to established protocol.
• Identifies and labels specimens.
• Aids in patient care before, during, and after collection.
• Checks in patients and verifies all necessary information is accurate and complete while processing test orders in the computer system, using both Epic and Laboratory Information System according to laboratory protocol.
• Instructs patients on all urine, stool, and other bodily fluid collection procedures and testing requirements and obtains and processes urine specimens for drug screening.
• Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment.
• Inventory supplies for reordering and routinely stocks supplies.
• Answers telephones, maintains logs, creates files, and maintains inventories of supplies.
• Enters orders into the laboratory information system.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

• Communicate in a manner that promotes clinic and laboratory professionalism and provides a comfortable experience for the patient.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

• Follow detailed instructions, appropriately prioritize tasks, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
• Understand and comply with state and federal laws and regulations and stay updated with federal regulatory changes.
• Knowledge of all routine container and minimum volumes required for specimen collection.

Knowledge

• Ability to answer the telephone in a pleasant, timely, and helpful manner.
