Job Description
The Lab Assistant II position supports the Medical Technologist/Technician by performing non-certified duties to ensure quality patient results. This includes preparing samples, maintaining equipment, documenting quality control, and reporting results accurately.
Essential Functions
- Properly prepares and identifies samples for laboratory testing
- Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
- Documents maintenance performance of instruments/equipment
- Controls inventory ordering and supplies to maintain adequate stock
- Accurately reports patient results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Performs clerical duties needed for the department (accessing information in the EHR, filing reports/slides/specimens, answering phones, tracking specimens)
- Retrieves and transports specimens to appropriate locations
- Performs waived testing
Additional Functions
- Identifies and reports any safety hazards or concerns
- Makes suggestions for improvements of policies and procedures
- Develops and assists in writing training guides and standard work documents
- Aids in setting up new Charge Description Master (CDM) numbers for testing
- Works to resolve ordering and billing issues
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED/Equivalent
- Some college course work (preferred)
- None (required) - One (1) year of laboratory experience (preferred)
