About the Role
Provides phlebotomy expertise, decision making, and problem solving skills based on in-depth knowledge of phlebotomy procedures. Performs the collection, receipt in computer, processing, and delivery of patient specimens for tests performed by the laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing
- Process and deliver specimens for lab analysis
- Utilize computer systems for specimen receipt and tracking
- Apply phlebotomy expertise and problem-solving skills
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program or one year of proven experience in Hospital, Reference, or Physician Office Lab
Skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Proficiency in personal computer skills
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking
- Occasional lifting of supplies/equipment up to 25 lbs
- Continuous need for clear speaking and hearing sensitivity in conversation (phone or in person)
- Continuous manual dexterity and mobility
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching
- Continuous ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less, judge distance and space relationships, bring objects into focus, and distinguish colors
- Inside environment protected from weather but not temperature changes
- Minimal noise levels with much exposure to computer work
- Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock
- Some exposure to infectious disease, hazardous chemicals, and radiation
- Travel between facilities as required
