Lab Assistant I

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates an ability to learn job duties and understand how functions in Technical Operations and Specimen Processing work together.
• Identifies and resolves issues with specimen types, missing information, sorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage of specimens.
• Develops an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering and researches test order information using translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
• Maintains quality and production standards within 6 months of training.
• Completes all required written documentation in a clear, legible, and timely manner.
• Reports to work on time and follows attendance guidelines, supporting the department in case of coworker absences.
• Learns additional functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing to facilitate progression to the next level.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Preferred Work Experience:

• Previous experience in a production environment.
• Knowledge of medical background, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Skills

• Minimal data entry skills.
