About the role

A laboratory assistant performing phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Verifies patient identification, draws blood from patients of all ages maintaining specimen integrity.
• Labels the drawn blood for processing.
• Enters correct patient information into the LIS.
• Verifies accurate and correct information on patients and proceeds to accurate labeling of specimens.
• Accurate data entry skills in verifying correct patient information and requested tests.
• Professional attitude with patients including assistance with patients' questions and giving instructions on specimen collection and handling.
• Maintains a well-stocked, clean, and orderly work environment.
• Adheres to all safety standards in the handling of biohazardous specimens and contaminated phlebotomy equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• A minimum of one year experience as a phlebotomist to include phlebotomy performed on all ages.
• Preferred: Ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and data entry skills.
• Knowledge of specimen collection, specimen requirements, specimen integrity and specimen handling.
