About the role
A laboratory assistant performing phlebotomy.
Responsibilities
- Verifies patient identification, draws blood from patients of all ages maintaining specimen integrity.
- Labels the drawn blood for processing.
- Enters correct patient information into the LIS.
- Verifies accurate and correct information on patients and proceeds to accurate labeling of specimens.
- Accurate data entry skills in verifying correct patient information and requested tests.
- Professional attitude with patients including assistance with patients' questions and giving instructions on specimen collection and handling.
- Maintains a well-stocked, clean, and orderly work environment.
- Adheres to all safety standards in the handling of biohazardous specimens and contaminated phlebotomy equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- A minimum of one year experience as a phlebotomist to include phlebotomy performed on all ages.
- Preferred: Ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and data entry skills.
- Knowledge of specimen collection, specimen requirements, specimen integrity and specimen handling.
