Job Summary
As a Lab Assistant PRN with HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, you will contribute to an organization dedicated to community service. Your responsibilities include specimen collection, processing, and submission, as well as clerical duties.
Duties
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of specimen collection and testing requirements and specimen rejection criteria.
- Demonstrates proficiency in venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks on various patient populations.
- Utilizes supplies appropriately and follows established procedures for patient identification and specimen collection.
- Completes appropriate specimen collection documentation and educates patients/families on specimen collection procedures.
- Uses computer information systems relative to job functions and performs clerical duties such as faxing, phones, pneumatic tube system, and report preparation.
- Reviews Outstanding Specimen Reports (OSRs) and pending specimen collections/accessioning issues and takes action as necessary.
- Processes and submits specimens to referral laboratories according to established protocols.
- Communicates and troubleshoots problem specimens in a timely manner.

- Completes assigned courses and training on an annual basis.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in registration, clerical duties, and specimen processing.
- Preferred 1-3 years in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or EMT certification preferred.
