*Lab Assistant - Clinical Lab

Responsibilities

• Performs computer entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrates good telephone etiquette and greets patients and visitors politely.
• Possesses strong communication skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Shows proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection for all age groups.
• Processes pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens (pre-analytic phase only).
• Processes specimens for reference laboratories.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies.
• Maintains cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas.
• Places specimens on laboratory instruments following established policies.
• With documented training, may perform instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control procedures, primary culture inoculations, slide staining, and subculturing from liquid media.
• Performs additional tasks assigned by the department manager/director (e.g., monitoring, mailing, faxing, answering phones, interdepartmental deliveries).
• Assists in Pathology with training and evaluations.
• Serves as a runner for the department.
• Assists in transcribing post-analytic results.
• Requires direct and constant supervision by a CLS or other licensed personnel during analytical testing phases.

Unlicensed laboratory personnel may not read, result, verify, or interpret laboratory tests; perform quantitative measurements or calculations; or conduct instrument calibration or quality control reviews.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.
• State certification as CPT I or CPT II if required by state law.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire; maintaining certification preferred.

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $23.04 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
