Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, And Responsibilities
- Treats all customers in a professional, courteous, and prompt manner.
- Demonstrates a professional and caring attitude.
- Compliant with Departmental and Hospital Policies and Procedures and State/Federal Regulations.
- Adheres to policies and procedures for infection control, HIPPA, as well as safety and risk management.
- Completes required emergency planning drills.
- Interacts with other departments in solving problems and working as a team.
- Participates in interdepartmental process improvements and process evaluation.
- Attends monthly staff meetings.
- Serves as a liaison between the clinic and hospital labs and as a reference for nursing staff.
- Keeps supplies stocked and ordered as needed.
- Ensures accurate patient demographics and tests are entered in computer data base.
- Provides necessary instructions to customers for specimen collection.
- Answers telephone and assists caller as needed.
- Proficient in phlebotomy skills for all ages using appropriate collection devices.
- Prepares specimens to ship to reference labs.
- Performs venipunctures and collects blood cultures.
- Collections from throat, nares, and nasopharyngeal samples.
- Starts tests and obtains specimens for glucose tolerance tests.
- Performs drug and breath alcohol screens.
- Performs paternity collections.
- Participates in proficiency testing.
- Calls critical values per department policy.
- Proficient in performing CLIA waived testing.
- Proficient in performing quality control for CLIA waived testing.
- Pack, unpack, and receive blood products.
- Responds to Code Blue and Traumas.
- Exhibits proper use of two patient identifiers.
- Applies guidelines for age appropriate and patient mental status.
- Performs quality control on Glucometer each day of use.
- Disposes of and changes sharps containers.
- Reconciles DTC reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
- Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
