Lab Aide

About the role

The Laboratory (Lab) Aide/Assistant supports the Laboratory with all clerical and ancillary duties and keeps all equipment ready to run for patient output. Key responsibilities include supporting Histology staff with tasks like embedding, staining, QCing, filing, cleaning up, and more. They also ensure QA/QC charts for all Laboratory equipment, prepare and maintain solutions, and handle specimen preparation and disposal.

Responsibilities

• Supports Histology staff with all clerical and ancillary functions.
• Participates in histology tasks such as embedding, staining, QCing, filing, cleaning up, etc.
• Ensures consistent and accurate completion of daily assigned tasks.
• Manages QA/QC charts for all Laboratory equipment.
• Prepares and maintains working solutions for routine H&E staining on automatic strainers and special staining.
• Handles and disposes of specimens and chemical waste according to Laboratory processes.
• Fills out and maintains Lab logbooks and forms.
• Performs QC of specimens, verifying surgical case numbers match blocks and slides.
• Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments.
• Verifies expiration dates, shortages, and maintenance of supplies within the Laboratory.
• Maintains supply inventory, including package receiving and supply chain requests, and submits orders to purchasing department.
• Unpacks and verifies orders received and stocks inventory areas.
• Identifies and reports problems affecting test performance or reporting of test results.
• Reports any non-compliance behaviors to the Laboratory Manager.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Complies with all Lab SOPs and Regulatory Agencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of previous lab experience preferred.
• Willingness to work shift work and overtime.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• General working knowledge of computers for business use.
• Communication - Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with Management and co-workers.
• Teamwork - Commitment to the achievement of team and organizational goals through participation with and helping other members of the team.
• Good organization and time management skills.
• Self-motivated and self-directed.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and other healthcare-related areas.

Qualifications

Competitive base salary.

Schedule

Full-time position, Monday-Friday 12pm-8pm or 2pm-10pm. May be asked to work varying or longer schedules, if needed. Overtime may be required. Weekends, evenings, and early shifts may be required.
