Lab Aid, Non Destructive Testing (Part-Time)

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.

About the Role

Learning Assistants are expected to attend an assigned section of a Nondestructive Testing class to assist students with activities, attend paid training, and tutor students outside of class. Expected time commitment is 10-15 hours total per week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for content and concept understanding, not direct answers to graded work (e.g., homework, projects, quizzes, etc.)
  • Be open and available for observations and follow-up conversations
  • Help students learn how to learn the material
  • Help students develop or refine their study skills and become independent learners
  • Apply different learning strategies, including active learning and peer-to-peer techniques
  • Communicate subject matter effectively

Requirements

  • Knowledge of calibration of Eddy Current Machines
  • Knowledge of calibration of Ultrasonic Machines
  • Knowledge of warm-up procedures of X-ray machines
  • Knowledge of codes and specifications used for Liquid Penetrant Testing
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Empathy for and understanding of the diverse student population in the college
  • Great time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the needs of students seeking learning support
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively
  • Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing, fast-moving educational environment
  • Ability to perform clerical tasks effectively
  • Ability to work well with others and in a team environment
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: The applicant will have completed at least one semester in a Nondestructive Testing Class.
