L&I Veteran Placement Program, Multiple Classifications
About the role
The Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) is launching the Veterans Placement Program (VPP) to support transitioning active-duty military members, Veterans, retirees, and military spouses in starting their civilian careers. This program offers a direct pathway to employment and valuable experience in state government.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct service to customers of all agency programs, including opening of accounts, payment of assessed fees, and collection of money.
- Aid supervisors and workers' compensation adjudicators by providing excellent customer service and performing complex clerical support.
- Review accounts and perform audits for customers according to RCWs Title 51 and WAC, communicate audit findings, and offer consulting.
- Assist with insurance benefits questions, retirement enrollments, and other relevant guidance for employees.
- Share responsibility for providing direct service to customers of all agency programs, and assist in improving customer service and productivity.
- Assist in resolving audits and projects as needed.
Requirements
- Currently serving active-duty military member honorably transitioning from active service, within 60 days of discharge.
- Currently serving Army or Air National Guard or Reserves member.
- Honorably discharged military member or retiree.
- The spouse of a currently serving military member (all branches).
Qualifications
To qualify as a VPP participant, you must meet one of the above criteria. All positions are non-permanent, non-recruitment, temporary opportunities. Required qualifications and position details will vary depending on the position job classification.
Skills
Skills required for various positions include strong communication, customer service, administrative support, and auditing abilities. Specific education and experience requirements vary and can be obtained by emailing VPPinfo@lni.wa.gov.

Pay
Salaries range from $3,665 to $5,812 per month, depending on the position.
Schedule
Positions are typically non-permanent, non-recruitment, temporary opportunities. Teleworking is an option for some positions, but in-office work may be required based on business needs and supervisor approval.
