L&I PROGRAM SPECIALIST 3
About the role
This Non-Permanent opportunity is scheduled to last 5 months. The Boiler Program’s mission is to promote and enforce public safety for all boilers and pressure vessels throughout Washington State. The program includes field inspectors and central-office staff who work together to ensure compliance, accuracy, and public confidence in inspections and certifications.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the point of contact and subject matter expert for external and internal customers.
- Manages the program accounting and collections for program.
- Administers the Jurisdiction Reporting System (JRS), ensuring the accuracy and transparency of inspection and billing data used by internal and external partners.
- Assists higher-level staff, including the Chief Boiler/Pressure Vessel Inspector/Pressure Vessel Inspector, by coordinating statewide program operations, providing analytical and policy support, managing multiple contracts and developing procedures that improve consistency and customer service.
- Supports L&I Goals 1 and 3 by ensuring inspection data, reports, and certifications are accurate, timely, and compliant with state safety laws, protecting the public from unsafe boilers and pressure vessels, and improving the accessibility, efficiency, and reliability of program systems and customer interactions.
Qualifications
- Equivalent combination of education and experience, or six (6) years’ experience.
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience including planning, policy analysis, coordination and consultation with a variety of public and private agencies, organizations, and/or levels of government.
- Must be able to use the computer, able to type at least 40 words per minute and expert knowledge of Outlook and Word.
- Basic knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, and the ability to learn program specific applications.
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
Skills
- Expert knowledge of program-specific applications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple contracts and develop procedures.
- Knowledge of Public Records Act RCW 42.56 and retention schedules.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The position is expected to be worked approximately 3 days per week, with the assigned duty station being Tumwater, Washington.
