About the role
LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Kurmanji-English phone interpreter to work remotely. This is an independent contractor position and not eligible for employee benefits.
Responsibilities
- Handle interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established protocols.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation and enunciation.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
- Stay calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations like 911 calls.
- Ensure punctuality and availability during work hours.
- Follow client instructions and comply with protocol to meet client expectations.
- Understand and adapt to various industries' terminology and procedures.
- Show cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
- Handle emotionally and/or stressful calls without breaking confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Fluency in Kurmanji and English with cultural understanding.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
- Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive calls.
- Education or work experience in language-related fields preferred.
- Able to adapt to LLS technology enhancements.
- At least 18 years old.
- Licensed to work in the United States.
- Ability to read and write both languages highly preferred.
Technical Requirements
- Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
- Desktop/Laptop computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS.
- Tablets (iPadOS or Android).
- Sophisticated smartphones (iOS or Android).
- No restricted brand devices.
- High-speed internet connection with download speeds of at least 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, ping value of no more than 300 ms, and jitter value of no more than 30 ms.
- Quiet workspace free from background noise or distractions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse for most of the workday.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
- Able to lift up to 26 lbs.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels.
