About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a remote Kurmanji‑English Phone Interpreter. This is an independent contractor, work‑from‑home position based in the United States. Pay is $0.75–$0.90 per minute. Interpreters serve clients in healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. Responsibilities

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions.
• Remain calm during stressful or emotional calls, including emergency situations such as 911.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocol to meet Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP) expectations without interacting with the LEP without client permission.
• Understand protocol and terminology for various industries (medical, insurance, finance, law, etc.).
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
• Handle highly emotional or stressful calls, potentially remaining on a call for extended periods without breaks.

Requirements

• Fluency in Kurmanji and English, with skilled cultural dynamics.
• Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional/accent differences.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high accuracy.
• Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral/objective, even during sensitive subjects (end‑of‑life, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, sexual orientation/gender expression).
• Education or work experience in language‑related fields (teaching, language assessment, translation, interpretation) preferred.
• Ability to adapt to LanguageLine technology enhancements.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States; work authorization must not require future visa sponsorship (no H‑1B, F‑1 OPT, TN, etc.).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Not currently employed by a client of LanguageLine Solutions or an affiliated business.
• Ability to read and write the requested languages – highly preferred.
• Based on location, a post‑offer pre‑employment background check and/or drug screen may be required.

Skills

• Technical: Dedicated personal device (desktop/laptop Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS; tablets iPadOS/Android; smartphones iOS/Android).
• Restricted: No Kaspersky software; no Huawei hardware.
