About the role

KSL-TV is seeking a talented motion graphic designer for a part-time, hybrid/remote role. The position requires occasional on-site work at our KSL-TV location, with specific schedules determined based on business needs. This role involves creating compelling graphics and animations for daily news shows and special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Concept, design, and create compelling graphics and animations for daily news shows, including on-set graphics, show opens, lower thirds, wipes, and package animations (2D/3D camera tracking and compositing).
  • Design graphics and animations for special series, documentaries, promos, sales, community events, on-air package graphics, logos, and print ads.
  • Fulfill daily requests for KSL-TV news, KSL.com, KSL Sports, KSL Sports Zone, KSL Newsradio, and Bonneville Distribution.
  • Learn and use newsroom software systems, including Xpression.
  • Assist in Conference Documentary graphics twice per year.
  • Work with producers, reporters, directors, and production staff to create a professional look and maintain accuracy in all graphics.

Requirements

  • Demo reel required for all applicants.
  • College degree in graphic design, animation, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience designing and animating 2D/3D graphics (broadcast experience a plus).
  • Proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Blender (Ross XPression experience a plus).
  • Strong typography skills and foundation in motion design, animation, tracking, and compositing.
  • Understanding of the importance of accuracy in spelling and content of on-air graphics.
  • Ability to work under pressure, particularly during peak hours, and make good decisions.
  • Positive attitude, self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Initiative and innovation in problem-solving.
  • Willingness to learn new software and broadcast equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and comply with company policies and procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Effectively receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment.
  • Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Pay

$20.00 - $23.00 per hour. Hourly rate determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market data.

Schedule

  • Part-time, approximately 28 hours per week.
  • Night shifts: Thursday and Friday, 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM (subject to change based on business needs).
  • Weekends and holidays may be required as needed.
