Kitchen Suppression – Fire Extinguisher Utility Technician

About the role
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Kitchen Suppression Utility Apprentice/Trainee to assist our installation and maintenance team. This entry-level role provides paid training and state certification opportunities, supporting fire suppression system installations, inspections, and repairs while ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist the lead installer with kitchen fire suppression system installations, adhering to manufacturer specifications, local building codes, and NFPA standards.
- Support routine inspections of kitchen suppression systems, identifying issues and addressing past-due work orders.
- Maintain and repair kitchen suppression systems, exit/emergency lighting, and portable fire extinguishers as needed.
- Cover inspections during technician absences to ensure uninterrupted service.
- Assist with shop tasks, such as inventory management, when required.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, maintenance, and repairs.
- Complete state certification exams for Pre-Engineered systems and Fire Extinguishers (training provided).
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
Requirements
- No formal experience required; familiarity with installation, maintenance, or repair is a plus.
- Ability to interpret basic technical drawings, schematics, and specifications (preferred but not required).
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn and earn licenses.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with the team.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders, use lifts, and work at various heights.
- Able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces or outdoor environments.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
- Must wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Capable of driving company vehicles and transporting equipment or materials.
- Ability to remain alert and focused during detailed or repetitive tasks.

This is an hourly position with compensation based on experience and annual merit-based raises.
