Kitchen & Pantry Assistants

Part-time position supporting the daily operations of the Neighborhood Center food program in Wheeling, WV. This role involves kitchen tasks, food pantry coordination, donation management, and transportation of food donations across Ohio, Marshall, and Belmont Counties.

Responsibilities

• Dishwashing and maintaining sanitation standards in the kitchen
• Cleaning, stocking, and organizing the kitchen and pantry
• Weighing and recording donations
• Weekly preparation and cleanup of the food pantry
• Attending regular meetings and trainings
• Working flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays (holiday work is required)
• Maintaining records on food usage and the number of individuals served
• Instructing proper use of equipment when necessary
• Working with Maintenance Worker and Kitchen Manager on special cleaning in kitchen/dining areas
• Cooperating with other Center employees to maintain facilities and serve neighbors
• Performing weekly donation pickups using a company vehicle as needed
• Assisting with meal route delivery as needed
• Performing other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
• Preferred: at least one (1) year experience in food service
• Ability to follow directions and supervision
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to lift heavy packages (up to 50 pounds) and work on feet for the majority of the day
• Ability to operate various types of food service equipment
• Willingness to adapt to changes in scheduling
• Must possess or be able to obtain a food handler’s card as issued by the State
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license before start date is preferred

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle objects/tools, talk, hear, and taste or smell
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception

Work Environment

• Kitchen environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional fumes or airborne particles
• Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and hot surfaces
• Moderate noise level
