Kitchen Assistant

About the role

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the Kitchen Manager and staff in preparing and delivering nutritious, high-quality meals for children while ensuring efficient kitchen operations. This role contributes to a safe, compliant, and child-centered food service program aligned with regulatory standards and the mission of providing healthy, developmentally appropriate meals.

Responsibilities

• Support the Kitchen Manager and staff in meal preparation and delivery
• Ensure efficient kitchen operations in a childcare setting
• Maintain compliance with health and sanitation regulations
• Adhere to CACFP and related guidelines
• Train others in kitchen management and cooking techniques
• Cook for large groups, particularly in a childcare environment
• Local travel as required (must be insurable under Youth In Need auto liability coverage)
• Support occasional evening school events

Requirements

• Minimum of two years in a commercial kitchen management role
• Experience training others in kitchen management and cooking techniques
• Experience cooking for large groups, preferably in a childcare setting
• Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations
• Familiarity with CACFP and related guidelines
• ServSafe Certification (required within 30 days of hire if not already certified)
• CPR and First Aid certification (required)
• Valid driver’s license
• Sensitivity to the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the service population

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional evenings to support school events.

Pay

Starting at $18.08 per hour.
