About the role
As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the Kitchen Manager and staff in preparing and delivering nutritious, high-quality meals for children while ensuring efficient kitchen operations. This role contributes to a safe, compliant, and child-centered food service program aligned with regulatory standards and the mission of providing healthy, developmentally appropriate meals.
Responsibilities
- Support the Kitchen Manager and staff in meal preparation and delivery
- Ensure efficient kitchen operations in a childcare setting
- Maintain compliance with health and sanitation regulations
- Adhere to CACFP and related guidelines
- Train others in kitchen management and cooking techniques
- Cook for large groups, particularly in a childcare environment
- Local travel as required (must be insurable under Youth In Need auto liability coverage)
- Support occasional evening school events
Requirements
- Minimum of two years in a commercial kitchen management role
- Experience training others in kitchen management and cooking techniques
- Experience cooking for large groups, preferably in a childcare setting
- Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations
- Familiarity with CACFP and related guidelines
- ServSafe Certification (required within 30 days of hire if not already certified)
- CPR and First Aid certification (required)
- Valid driver’s license
- Sensitivity to the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the service population
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional evenings to support school events.
Pay
Starting at $18.08 per hour.
