About the role
The Connecticut Kinship Navigator Program (CKIN) is a program aimed at preventing foster care disruptions and enhancing stability and permanency for kinship caregivers and the children in their care. It collaboratively identifies family needs, provides psychoeducation and skill development, and connects families to resources.
Responsibilities
- Conducts needs assessments to identify basic needs, legal, child welfare, caregiver social support, caregiver health, caregiver education & training, family functioning, childcare, education & child development, child social support, child health and cultural support;
- Aids families in identifying and prioritizing their needs and navigating community resources;
- Identifies culturally appropriate resources for families;
- Supports families and connects them to needed resources;
- Advocates for family needs to all parties involved;
- Attends trainings and meetings and regularly attends supervision;
- Documents all services and contacts with families, collateral contacts, and providers.
Qualifications
- Education: BSW or BA/BS in related human services field preferred, or an Associate’s degree plus 2 years’ extra experience in a related field, or a High School diploma with 4 years’ extra experience in a related field;
- Experience: At least 2 years’ experience working with families and knowledge of community resources and services, with advocacy work in behalf of children and families preferred, and closely related kinship caregiver experience of 2 years or more preferred;
- Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Valid current driver’s license and own vehicle for regular home visits;
- Training: Participation in agency required training and additional training recommended by supervisor.
