About the role
The City of Kingman is seeking a skilled Electrician III to perform advanced electrical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment for the city.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical systems, equipment, and components in municipal facilities, including streetlights, traffic signals, buildings, and water/wastewater treatment plants.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of electrical systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical problems using testing devices and tools.
- Ensure compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC), city codes, and safety regulations.
- Operate and maintain a variety of electrical testing equipment and hand/power tools.
- Assist in the training and supervision of lower-level electricians and apprentices.
- Respond to emergency calls for electrical system failures and perform repairs as needed.
- Prepare cost estimates for electrical projects and maintain records of work performed.
- Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and utility companies as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years of journey-level experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work, including at least two (2) years at a level equivalent to an Electrician II.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
- Experience with industrial, commercial, and municipal electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs and work overtime as required.
Special Requirements
- Certification as a Journeyman Electrician by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and physical examination.
