Kindergarten Educational Assistant
About the role
The Daisy Lane School serves as the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten division of Holy Trinity School, located in Glenn Dale, Maryland. We seek qualified candidates who are enthusiastic about delivering developmentally appropriate instruction within a preschool setting and are comfortable implementing a preschool-based curriculum to guide classroom learning experiences. Ideal candidates will demonstrate creativity, a proactive and adaptable mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and families. A positive attitude and the flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a preschool classroom are essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support aligned with the curriculum established by The Daisy Lane School and Holy Trinity School.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualized, small-group, and whole-class instructional activities that address both student and classroom needs.
- Prepare and utilize instructional materials that promote growth in key developmental areas for preschool students, including academic, social, emotional, and physical development.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher to develop lesson plans that align with established preschool standards, goals, and objectives.
- Create and maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive classroom environment.
- Establish and maintain effective classroom management practices that encourage active participation while preserving the natural, informal atmosphere of a preschool setting.
- Demonstrate warmth, care, and fairness toward all students, building strong, positive relationships with each child.
- Foster a culture of respect within the classroom and throughout the school community when interacting with students, colleagues, families, and administrators.
- Support the Lead Teacher in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate and detailed records, which will be reviewed periodically by the Head of The Daisy Lane School.
- Participate actively in scheduled parent-teacher conferences alongside the Lead Teacher.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in all professional matters.
- Demonstrate readiness and ability to assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
- Receive feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism from colleagues and administrators with professionalism and openness.
- Demonstrate reliability through consistent punctuality and attendance, including participation in school-related events.
- Engage in ongoing professional development through in-house training, workshops, and coursework offered by accredited institutions and recognized educational organizations.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED
- Current CPR certification
- Strong oral and written interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in computer applications, including but not limited to the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred qualifications include:
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- 90-hr Child Care Certification
- Familiarity with and experience implementing the Responsive Classroom approach
- Prior experience working in an educational or early childhood setting
