Kindergarten and 1st Grade Bilingual Teacher

About the role

The Bilingual Teacher will deliver instruction in both English and Spanish, adhering to ISBE guidelines for Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) programs. The position directly reports to the school principal and collaborates with other teachers, administrators, and support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute standards-aligned English and Spanish lessons while providing targeted tutoring and creating instructional materials.
  • Employ diverse instructional strategies and resources within differentiated instruction to meet the specific needs of ELLs with varying English proficiency levels.
  • Utilize language proficiency assessments, such as ACCESS for ELLs, to gather and interpret student data, informing instructional adjustments and facilitating clear communication with parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify and support English Language Learners (ELLs), providing solutions, using resources effectively, and implementing instructional strategies.
  • Maintain required paperwork and records for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate that encourages a cooperative and participant attitude among staff and students, celebrating student achievements and successes.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
  • Perform additional related duties within the scope of this position.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, a valid state teaching license or certification, and either a Bilingual or English as a Second Language Endorsement are required.
  • A Master's degree and/or Learning Behavior Specialist certification, along with prior teaching experience, are highly preferred.

  • Thorough understanding of pedagogy and best practices of education.

  • Ability to design engaging lessons using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite or related software.
