About the Role

Performs the functions of a children's specialist and maintains the daily Kids Club operations consistent with the goals and directives of the Recreation Manager. Assists with the organization and execution of all children's activities, family and children's events, and summer camps.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with children aged sitters to about ten years of age, at varying levels of physical abilities.
  • Responsible for opening and closing of the child services area at the Recreation Center.
  • Plan, develop, and execute various fun and educational children's activities.
  • Ensure all children participating in the activities are signed in and that the responsible parent/guardian has signed a liability waiver.
  • Provide a list of required materials and supplies in a timely manner to the Family and Children's Services Coordinator for purchase.
  • Set up and break down all activities, flipping the room as needed in support of future events.
  • Attend special events hosted at the Recreation Center or other locations on property, as needed (special camps, classes, and other activities).
  • Supervise up to 8 children at a time while maintaining a daily interactive age-friendly routine.
  • Assist with maintaining the Kids Club room, Teen Room, and restroom in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion, including opening/closing, answering the phone, and checking children both in and out according to established procedures.
  • Keep both Kids Club and storage areas neat and in safe working order.
  • Embody a "play well with others" demeanor; maintain a positive "can-do" attitude and demonstrate a proactive, team-centered approach.
  • Deliver "I Am Proud" service standards and department-specific signature touch points.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Interface positively with other departments, offering assistance when needed.
  • Display care in the use of equipment and maintain an organized and professional work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year's related work experience with children, preferably in a daycare or program setting.
  • Must have or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to interpret/extract information and/or perform arithmetic functions.
  • Good communication skills and patience.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays, as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently: Standing, walking, bending over, reaching, crouching, lifting/carrying 10 lbs. or less, manual dexterity, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, eye/hand coordination, near vision, color recognition, hearing.
  • Occasionally: Sitting, kneeling, balancing, pushing/pulling, lifting/carrying 11 to 25 lbs., far vision.

Work Environment

  • Primarily works indoors with overhead lighting and comfortable ventilation.
  • May occasionally work in all areas of the property, both inside and outside, possibly in inclement weather.
  • Works closely with others but may occasionally work alone.
  • Environmental factors may include noise, working around fumes/smoke/gas, and walking on uneven surfaces.
