This position will also rotate through the other Health Sections of Newborn Screening, Clinical Microbiology, and Molecular Diagnostics. This position will provide support to KHEL scientists as they validate new methods and/or maintain current testing. This position will assist with maintaining laboratory equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), will provide support to the Health Section Chief as needed, and will also assist other Laboratory Sections (Quality Assurance, Environment, Laboratory Operations) when opportunities arise. Intern will provide support to KDHE scientists. Intern will assist with maintaining laboratory equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Intern will provide support to Unit managers and Section Chief as needed. Intern will also assist other laboratory sections as needed.These sections include Safety and Security, Quality Assurance, Environment, Laboratory Operations.This will provide the intern with a well rounded picture of KHEL and also help ensure KHEL operational needs are being met. Qualifications Education:High School, GEDLicensing & Certification:Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.Minimum Qualifications: Currently engaged in a College Program/course of study toward a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or environmental science/chemistry or biology, or related field. Intern should be able work in a variety of weather conditions, navigate rugged or slippery terrain, and lift 25 lbs. Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to sites. Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of employment.
