About the role

KFSN-TV/ABC30 Action News seeks a General Assignment Reporter who will cover breaking news, produce engaging stories, and maintain a strong social media presence.

Responsibilities

  • Report for newscasts and digital platforms, delivering timely updates on social media
  • Research, pitch, and write creative stories, often fronting them with live shots
  • Collaborate with photojournalists, producers, assignment editors, and managers to execute story assignments
  • Shoot and edit stories as needed
  • Create engaging vertical videos for social media
  • Represent KFSN-TV/ABC30 Action News at community events and speaking engagements

Requirements

  • Demonstrated storytelling and journalism skills
  • Flexible schedule, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Highly organized and able to work under deadline pressure
  • Naturally curious, positive, and open to feedback
  • Innovative and creative storytelling and social media content

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of reporting experience
  • Knowledge of the Central Valley
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish preferred)
  • Success creating engaging vertical videos for social media
  • Strong understanding of local government and politics

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Benefits

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between SAG-AFTRA and KFSN-TV. The pay rate for this role in Fresno, California is $60,000 to $70,000 per year. The pay rate actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The role also has potential for additional compensation for overtime and early morning/overnight shifts.
