Job Summary

The Key Account Specialist serves as the inside partner to our field-based Key Account Managers, providing the day-to-day account support, problem-solving, analysis, and coordination that help strategic B2B customer relationships run smoothly. This office-based, non-traveling role develops a strong foundation in customer service—including quoting, order management, inventory, returns, and issue resolution—and builds on that knowledge through reporting, dashboarding, account analysis, and customer relationship management. Working with customers, Key Account Managers, Product teams, and other internal partners, the Key Account Specialist looks beyond the immediate request to understand root causes, identify solutions, and follow issues through to resolution. Success in this role requires strong initiative, business acumen, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to make things easier and better for the customer. Because assigned customers have locations across the United States, flexibility to adjust work hours as needed to provide responsive support across multiple time zones is important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with field-based Key Account Managers as the primary inside resource for assigned strategic accounts, building strong relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Manage tactical customer needs, including quotes, sales orders, returns, inventory coordination, backorders, and follow-up using ERP and CRM systems.
  • Investigate customer and operational issues to identify root causes, engage the appropriate internal partners, recommend solutions, and follow through to ensure issues are fully resolved.
  • Analyze purchasing trends, sales performance, inventory activity, and customer data to proactively identify risks, efficiencies, cost savings, and growth opportunities.
  • Prepare dashboards, reports, presentations, and business review materials using Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools to turn account data into useful insights.
  • Coordinate across Product, Sales, Supply Chain, Accounting, Logistics, and other teams to solve customer needs accurately and efficiently.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product standardization, ordering processes, e-procurement, and other processes across customer locations.
  • Provide proactive, responsive support to customers across multiple U.S. time zones, taking ownership of follow-up and adjusting work hours as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in B2B customer service, inside sales, account support, food manufacturing, or a related business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently investigate problems, identify root causes, develop solutions, and follow through to resolution.
  • Strong customer-service mindset with a proactive approach to communication, follow-up, and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite, including spreadsheets, and experience using ERP, CRM, or similar business systems.
  • Strong organization, communication, time management, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to learn complex customer, product, and business processes and apply that knowledge to practical customer solutions.
  • Ability and willingness to adjust work hours as needed to support customers across multiple U.S. time zones.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience supporting key, strategic, national, or multi-location B2B accounts.
  • Experience within distribution, food manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or sanitary processing environments.
  • Experience using ERP systems for order management, inventory, transaction management, reporting, or customer support.
  • Experience with Excel reporting, PivotTables, lookup functions, dashboards, or customer performance analysis.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple business functions to investigate and resolve customer or operational issues.
  • Familiarity with industrial product categories such as Food Ingredients, QA/QC, MRO, Safety/PPE, Sanitation, Packaging, Material Handling, or Sanitary Process and Flow Control.
