About the Role
The Key Account & Business Development Manager (KABDM) – MSS Emerging Markets is a strategic role reporting to the Growth Leader – MSS Diversified Markets. In addition to managing 5-10 existing key accounts, this role will uncover, shape, and capture high-growth opportunities through scalable, cross-company commercial wins. The KABDM will champion cross-business unit growth by architecting complex solutions that blend multiple company technologies and cross-selling established solutions into new customer ecosystems. Key initial target markets include national laboratories, MedTech, Energy, Food & Bev., and Industrial Automation & Control, with a mandate to expand into adjacent high-value sectors.
This is a full-time, remote position requiring regular national and international travel (50%) to build customer relationships and collaborate across MSS business units. Periodic physical attendance at designated regional offices is required.
Responsibilities
- Key Account Management:
- Drive long-term revenue growth and account profitability by serving as a trusted strategic advisor to existing customers in highly technical markets.
- Manage complex, customized solution portfolios with meticulous attention to detail, risk mitigation, and execution.
- Cultivate and expand multi-level stakeholder relationships across customer organizations, leveraging value-based selling strategies to uncover growth opportunities and maximize lifetime customer value.
- Strategic Market Penetration:
- Market Mapping & Positioning: Identify, evaluate, and map entry points into MedTech, Energy, Food & Bev., and Industrial Automation & Control markets to expand IDEX’s footprint.
- Technology Translation: Build a deep, cross-functional understanding of the MSS technology portfolio and partner with engineering teams to translate technical capabilities into high-impact customer solutions.
- Business Development & Pipeline Architecture:
- Pipeline Creation: Architect and deploy outbound go-to-market strategies, drive target campaigns, and discover net-new intercompany growth opportunities. Qualify the pipeline using enterprise frameworks like MEDDPICC.
- Strategic Relationship Management: Cultivate deep, multi-level alliances externally (Engineering, R&D, Procurement, Commercial executives) and internally (Legal, Finance, Compliance, BU Leadership) to dismantle silos and maximize IDEX wallet share.
- High-Value Deal Closure: Lead the negotiation and closure of complex, multi-BU agreements aligned with MSS strategic growth markets.
- Funnel Engineering & Process Transformation:
- Build and sustain a qualified business development funnel targeting high-margin opportunities worth greater than a specified annual target.
- Secure specified target in interconnected, multi-BU MSS bookings at scale.
- Secure a specified number of high-value prototypes annually, each engineered to yield a specified amount when scaled to production.
- Ecosystem Integration & Account Care:
- Maintain a regular cadence with emerging accounts and key stakeholders to foster high-trust relationships across internal business units.
- Ensure seamless handoffs to account management and service teams for after-sales activities to safeguard long-term account health.
- Marketing Strategy & Intelligence:
- Partner with the marketing organization to shape and execute strategic growth plans, providing market intelligence for technical content and campaigns.
- Maximize impact at key seminars and trade exhibitions.
- Analytics, Forecasting & Strategy:
- Leverage and optimize advanced Customer Relationship Management (CRM) workflows to track complex pursuits and deliver rigorous revenue forecasting.
- Contribute to the annual Strategic Planning (STRAP) process with actionable macro-market insights, competitive intelligence, and commercial growth roadmaps.
Requirements
- 7+ years of demonstrated success in B2B technical sales, managing multi-million-dollar key accounts alongside territory expansion and new business acquisition.
- Experience negotiating complex contracts, defending margins, and driving account profitability with senior leadership.
- Ability to travel worldwide up to 50% of the time.
- Proven experience navigating long, complex sales cycles involving multiple decision-makers and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to quickly master complex product portfolios, engineered solutions, and technical specifications to hold peer-level credibility with customer engineering and operations teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teaming skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Technical Business, or a related STEM field (or equivalent hands-on technical industry experience) is preferred.

Pay
The compensation range for this position is $112,700.00 - $169,100.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for a performance-based bonus plan.
