Duties & Responsibilities
- Present 20-40 lectures per year to medical, dental, and biomedical sciences students.
- Develop and/or revise learning objectives, lecture notes, slideshows, supplemental media, and assessment tools for these courses.
- Develop cases and facilitate small group case-based exercises for department courses.
- Develop and teach wet labs for Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
- Collaborate with faculty in the basic science and clinical departments to develop and deliver interdisciplinary educational content.
- Show evidence of research productivity by publishing results in refereed journals and presenting findings at national or international research conferences.
- Mentor biomedical, medical, and/or dental students in research projects.
- Interview applicants for the medical and biomedical sciences programs.
- Serve on college and university committees as assigned.
- Write COMLEX board questions and/or serve on NBOME item review committees.
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of KCOM.
Requirements
- A PhD, MD, DMD, or equivalent doctoral degree is required.
- Two years postdoctoral experience or the equivalent is required.
- Prior teaching experience at the graduate or professional school level is preferred.
- At least two years of postdoctoral research experience or the equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, infectious diseases, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology.
- Ability to present clear, concise, and engaging lectures to a pre-doctoral audience.
- Ability to facilitate and assess student performance in the small group setting.
- Ability to develop innovative teaching, learning, and assessment tools and techniques.
- Ability to effectively utilize the communication and technical skills required to conduct a competitive and successful research program.
- The applicant must be willing to work with all students, faculty, staff, and administration in a collegial and professional manner.
- The applicant must have excellent communication skills in lecture (large-audience), small group, and individualized settings.
- The applicant should be personable, with a positive attitude.
- The applicant should be organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and open to new ideas.
- The applicant should be resilient and tenacious while pursuing external grants to support their research.
