About the role
The Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle School Alternative Learning Teacher to join the Kalakaua Middle School team. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment and address various learning styles.
Responsibilities
- Teach all core content areas while incorporating hands-on learning projects such as gardening, cooking, physical activities, and art projects.
- Support students who may not thrive in a traditional classroom setting.
- Work collaboratively with other educators and staff to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- Valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire.
- Active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements within 3 years of employment.

Pay
New employees can expect their first paycheck within the first 3 pay periods of their start date. Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month.
Schedule
Teachers are represented by the Hawaii State Teachers Association and are represented by the union for collective bargaining. Temporary Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation, and other benefits are available.
