About the role

The Kainalu Pro at Mauna Lani will oversee a dynamic Hawaiian sports-based lifestyle program, blending fresh air, sunshine, nature, ocean, beach, and trail experiences. This role requires a deep passion for the outdoors, excellent teaching skills, and a friendly, patient, and helpful demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Surf Shack, Makaiwa Bay Shack, and all grounds areas are free of debris before opening and after closing.
• Report all maintenance issues prior to opening and closing.
• Ensure all necessary supplies are available and re-stocked prior to established opening time.
• Provide ocean safety and security for all hotel guests using the ocean, trail, and outdoor areas.
• Post safety signs as needed.
• Alert management of hazardous ocean conditions, beach jellyfish, broken glass, dangerous trail situations, thunder, lightning, and high wind notices.
• Warn guests of ocean conditions and foreseeable dangers.
• Aid in the evaluation of ocean usage to minimize personal injury and loss of life.
• Keep informed and updated on all Emergency Procedures and assist in the coordination of emergency procedures as required for the Beach and Pool areas.
• Patrol the area.

Qualifications

• Ability to swim 50 yards.
• Ability to run 1 mile in under 10 minutes, a 5k in under 45 minutes.
• Ability to complete a 7-mile ride on a 3-speed beach cruiser in less than 60 minutes.
• Ability to prone paddleboard 2 miles in less than 45 minutes.
• Prior guest services, hospitality, fitness, wellness, and recreation experience preferred.
• Knowledge of fitness is a plus - prefer personal trainer, cross-fit style coach, high intensity interval training, performance breathing, canoe, sup, prone paddling, swimming, freediving, surfing, and/or yoga experience.
• Must be able to pass and obtain American Red Cross certification in First Aid, AED, and CPR.
• Strong knowledge of Island of Hawaii (and other Hawaiian Islands) including tourist activities, restaurants, shopping, and history.
• Ability to follow instructions, direction, and meet deadlines.
• Positive self-motivated work attitude.
• Knowledge of ocean and current conditions in the immediate area of the hotel.
