About the role

Responsibilities
- Co-teach with a regular education teacher to support students with special needs.
- Plan and facilitate Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
- Exercise independent and professional judgment in carrying out daily functions.

- Grasp new concepts quickly and apply them effectively.

Requirements
- Valid Special Education license from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
- Special education classroom experience in a K-12 school setting.
- Desired knowledge includes planning and facilitating IEP meetings, exercising independent and professional judgment, maintaining an effective work pace, grasping new concepts quickly, and working effectively with others.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (with the exception of designated Career and Technology Education positions).
- Active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements within 3 years of employment.
- Enrollment in a Program to continue employment with the Department.
- A valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire.

Pay
Compensation: 10-month teachers shall be compensated for the applicable Bargaining Unit 05 10-month salary schedule for working a 10-month work year.
Paid sick leave: 18 days of paid sick leave (of which 6 can be utilized for personal and/or professional development purposes), provided that all conditions under the respective collective bargaining agreement are met.
