Provides support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas, developing lesson plans, and delivering instruction within established curriculum guidelines. Collaborates with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues, and responds to inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers developmental testing programs and subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and legal guardians of student progress, communicating expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
  • Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject-specific assignments for an effective program addressing individual student needs.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to address individual student needs.
  • Facilitates student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through defined lesson plans.
  • Instructs students to improve their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Models conversation, manners, clean-up activities, and listening skills to demonstrate appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
  • Monitors students in educational environments (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Organizes age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
  • Participates in meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
  • Performs other related duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse) to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to provide information and direction.
  • Supports classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.
  • Operates standard office and classroom equipment to provide an effective education program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with Dance Endorsement.
  • Job-related experience preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

  • Physical activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
  • Lifting demands: Up to 35 pounds.
  • Reaching activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
  • Environmental conditions: Moderate noise intensity.

Pay

Minimum starting salary for the 2026-2027 school year:

  • With Bachelor’s degree: $56,920 (includes District-paid TRS pension), pro-rated to start date.
  • With Master’s degree: $62,042 (includes District-paid TRS pension), pro-rated to start date.
