About the Role
The Physical Education Teacher, under the direction of the Principal, will lead instruction and training for scholars in their classroom and/or assigned grade level(s). This role involves collaborating with scholars, parents, and school administration to ensure academic success and character development for all students.
Responsibilities
- Establish a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment where scholars are invested in academic excellence and character growth.
- Develop and implement daily instruction plans aligned with long-range educational and organizational goals.
- Employ creative, differentiated, and research-based instructional strategies to engage students in meaningful and rigorous learning experiences.
- Conduct interim assessments, track student progress, and analyze data to determine mastery and diagnose areas of misunderstanding.
- Apply classroom management techniques and appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, behavior, student achievement data, grades, progress reports, parent communication, and textbooks.
- Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle.
- Ensure the physical safety and well-being of scholars on campus or during off-campus school functions.
- Hold scholars accountable to school-wide behavioral expectations and evaluate their academic progress through regular assessments.
- Recognize, celebrate, and reward scholar achievement and character development.
- Build rapport with scholars, parents, and families.
- Continually improve teaching skills by seeking constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
- Actively participate in faculty and staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Teach, lead, or assist with educational or extracurricular activities outside of regular school hours.
- Assist with scholar recruitment efforts as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent (required).
- State Teacher Certification (required).
- Specialty or highly qualified credential (preferred).
- At least 1-3 years of teaching experience; urban experience a plus.
- Experience working with students and families in urban communities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with school teaching platforms and virtual learning technology.
- Proven track record of student achievement results.
