About the role

The University of California, Merced is seeking a K-12 Academic Preparation Specialist IV to join our team. This role is full-time and on-site, with occasional travel to the Northern San Joaquin Valley. The position is a 2-year contract and eligible for full UC benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits and enrolls 6th — 12th-grade students for program participation.
  • Provides academic development and support through program services tied to program outcomes/objectives.
  • Supports with preparing summaries of each month's activities detailing results and an assessment of monthly efforts.
  • Supports and ensures that daily, workshop, and campus visit logs, surveys, evaluations, grades, and other data instruments are entered on time.
  • Supports with the development and implementation of college-going services and activities.
  • Organizes campus visits for students, parents, and educators.
  • Supports with organizing workshops for students, parents, and educators.
  • Supports in the planning and implementation of academic preparation and parent activities and conferences.
  • Delivers admissions, personal statement, financial aid, test taking and other workshops as assigned.
  • Assists in the organization and implementation of personal and academic enrichment programs for students and parents.
  • Assists in the development and production of program publications.
  • Maintains relationships with higher education institutions and community entities.
  • Develops and maintains professional relations with educators to identify educationally disadvantaged students to receive academic preparation and parent services.
  • Liaison to partner schools, including principals, head counselors, parents, key school personnel and/or assigned contacts regarding student and parent CEP programs.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with other UC/CSU/CCC programs including MESA, EAOP, AVID, Talent Search, CTFMS, Upward Bound, etc. as well as community-based organizations, civic groups and private industry.
  • Acts as a resource for elementary, middle school and high school personnel and the general public for inquiries regarding admissions, financial aid, housing, campus tours, and other related areas.
  • Supports with the coordination of academies that provides in-depth educational support and resources to students, which may include Saturday work as well as transportation of students.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of program activities and participant data.
  • Supports with the monitoring of the program budget and allocates resources efficiently.
  • Stays current with education trends and best practices to improve program offerings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or elementary school education or related area and three years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent experience/training.
  • Master’s degree in related area from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • Three years of progressively responsible related experience and/or combination of experience and training (required).

Critical Knowledge and Skills

  • Delivers individual and group advising services and maintains relationships with a group of K-14 students.
  • Delivers college-going workshops to parents and families at community and school sponsored events.
  • Designs and implements grade appropriate college-going workshops, curricula, materials and activities.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with parents / families to support student academic success and access to higher education.
  • Implements and facilitates recruitment and program alumni events.
  • Acts as advocate for students and parents.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with other college-going programs and K-14 higher education personnel.
  • Participates in strategic and program planning.
  • Produces program reports, collects student data, documents participant contacts and progress, and tracks academic progress of program participants.
  • Develops student academic plans to ensure post-secondary admission eligibility.
  • Serves on department, organization, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies.
  • Plans and implements college-going field trips and activities.
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates job performance of part-time, student, and/or summer staff.
