About the role

The successful candidate will lead and grow the K–12 music program at Islesboro Central School, starting in the 2026–2027 school year. This is a 4-day per week position.

Responsibilities

  • Teach general music across grade spans, including elementary music, middle and high school chorus and band, and small ensembles depending on student interest.
  • Organize and direct two K-12 concerts during the school year.
  • Play multiple instruments and accompany ensembles.
  • Incorporate student choice and contemporary music alongside traditional repertoire.
  • Help students experience the joy of making music, regardless of skill level.
  • Appreciate the unique opportunities and challenges of teaching in a small K–12 environment.

Requirements

  • Hold (or be eligible for) Maine certification in K-12 Music Education.

Qualifications

  • Dynamic, flexible, and community-minded.
  • Experience leading and growing a music program.
  • Ability to teach a variety of music classes and small ensembles.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Skills

  • Ability to play multiple instruments and accompany ensembles.
  • Experience incorporating student choice and contemporary music.
  • Ability to help students experience the joy of making music.
  • Understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of teaching in a small K–12 environment.
