About the role
The successful candidate will lead and grow the K–12 music program at Islesboro Central School, starting in the 2026–2027 school year. This is a 4-day per week position.
Responsibilities
- Teach general music across grade spans, including elementary music, middle and high school chorus and band, and small ensembles depending on student interest.
- Organize and direct two K-12 concerts during the school year.
- Play multiple instruments and accompany ensembles.
- Incorporate student choice and contemporary music alongside traditional repertoire.
- Help students experience the joy of making music, regardless of skill level.
- Appreciate the unique opportunities and challenges of teaching in a small K–12 environment.
Requirements
- Hold (or be eligible for) Maine certification in K-12 Music Education.
Qualifications
- Dynamic, flexible, and community-minded.
- Experience leading and growing a music program.
- Ability to teach a variety of music classes and small ensembles.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Skills
- Ability to play multiple instruments and accompany ensembles.
- Experience incorporating student choice and contemporary music.
- Ability to help students experience the joy of making music.
- Understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of teaching in a small K–12 environment.
