Responsibilities
- Serve as interim case manager of initial evaluations by coordinating and overseeing the process of conducting initial evaluations for students referred for special education services.
- Gathering, interpreting, and analyzing data from a variety of sources, including observations, assessments, and input from teachers, parents, and service providers.
- Evaluation reports will meet IDEA, state, and district compliance requirements.
- Aid case managers with meeting due process timelines and compliance standards as outlined by the Minnesota Department of Education.
- This may include completing portions of or all parts of due process documents to meet due process timelines and compliance requirements.
- Avoidance of delays in the due process timeline.
- Assist with reviewing outgoing due process documents and giving feedback to case managers where needed to reflect program changes based on IEP team discussions.
- Verifies all new and upcoming special education student records; verifies all students have an IEP, evaluation, and due process file; notes compliance concerns.
- Supervise student activities, which may include: bus duty – assist with walking students to the busses at the end of the day, breakfast and/or lunch duty – assist with monitoring based on a rotational schedule, other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current MN teaching license in one or more of the following: Special Education: Emotional Behavioral Disorders Grades K-age 21 (grade 12), Special Education: Learning Disabilities Grades K-age 21 (grade 12), Special Education: Autism Spectrum Disorders Birth-age 21 (grade 12), Special Education: Deaf or Hard of Hearing Birth-age 21 (grade 12), Special Education: Oral/Aural Education Birth-age 21 (grade 12).
- 3+ years of teaching experience.
- Knowledge of computer operation, applications, data entry and retrieval.
- Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and policies.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure, completing work in an accurate manner while meeting conflicting deadlines and schedules which are often set by others despite frequent interruptions.
- Ability to use initiative and exercise sound and effective judgment within established guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills - the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task.
- Knowledge of the programs, functions, and procedures of a school setting.
- Ability to remain calm in emergency and stressful situations.
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound and effective judgment within established guidelines.
- Ability to Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action.
