Juvenile Residential Treatment Officer Assistant
Job Summary

Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) is seeking part-time temporary Juvenile Residential Treatment Officer Assistants. In this role, you will assist Residential Treatment Officers who provide direct supervision and treatment intervention to post-adjudicated juvenile clients.
About the Role
This role involves assisting in supervision of clients, maintaining a safe and secure environment, implementing treatment plans, and ensuring continuity of care. You may also assist in providing individual and crisis intervention counseling, cognitive skill groups, and teamwork activities.
Responsibilities
- Assists in providing direct supervision of all client daily activities.
- Maintains accountability of all clients and equipment and ensures the environment is safe, clean, and secure.
- Affirms clients' responsibilities and appropriate behavior.
- Documents clients' behavior and enters information into the department's computer system.
- Maintains communication with other staff to ensure continuity of care.
- May assist in transporting clients to other facilities, as required.
- Assists in physically restraining aggressive clients using approved protocols, as needed.
- Assists in conducting investigations and reporting results clearly, accurately, and impartially.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Certification as a Juvenile Detention Officer or eligibility for certification within six months of hire.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, and legal terminology related to the court system.
- Understanding of psychological concepts, standard counseling techniques, safety and security techniques, physical restraint techniques, and first aid.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handle stressful situations, and communicate effectively.
Skills
- Monitoring and responding to client behavior.
- Problem-solving and decision-making.
- Interviewing clients.
- Both verbal and written communication.
Benefits
The position offers a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with shift and certification pay premiums applicable.

Schedule
The position offers three shift options: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Overtime eligibility may apply.

Located at 2515 S. Congress Ave, Austin, the department plays an important role in business continuity.
