JUVENILE PROBATION & PAROLE OFFICER III-IV

About the role

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Division for Children, Youth, and Families has a full-time vacancy for Juvenile Probation and Parole Officer III-IV.

Responsibilities

• Independently attends court hearings, conduct pre-dispositional investigations for adjudicated youth and prepare written reports for the courts for use at disposition and review hearings.
• Make sentencing and restitution recommendations to the Court.
• Serve as officers of the court regarding juveniles receiving services through DCYF-Juvenile Justice Services, or those placed on conditional release or parole.
• Supervise pre-adjudicated and adjudicated Delinquents and CHINS as ordered by the court; minors on administrative release or on parole and minors from other states under the interstate compact on juveniles.
• Maintain close contact with parents, guardians, schools, and other agencies to ensure compliance with court orders.
• Promptly report to the court, violations of court orders and conditions that are required by statute or the court or which are serious enough to warrant consideration by the court; attend court hearings on violations and provide information to the court as to the basis for the violation along with recommendations for appropriate action.
• Develop parole supervision plans with recommendations on the conditions and terms of parole for presentation to and approval by the Juvenile Parole Board.
• Monitor and review cases to ensure that Solution Based community supervision and placement case plans are developed with the youth and the family to ensure that objectives and tasks are being achieved and that court orders are being complied with in accordance with State and Federal Statute.
• Has the authority to arrest and take into custody any juvenile who is found violating any law, or who is reasonably believed to be a fugitive from justice, or whose circumstances are such as to endanger his/her person or welfare, unless immediate action is taken.
• Completes all required documentation, including case plans, court reports and all necessary Bridges documentation of case related activities.
• Independently prioritizes work demands.
• Receives regular supervision from a supervisor and may serve as a field training officer for newly hired staff or supervise an intern.
• Participates in community based or statewide committees to establish effective working relationships with adolescents, families, court officials, law enforcement agencies, service providers and the general public.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 1.5 years of experience OR equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field with at least 3 years working with adults and/or juveniles in the criminal justice or social work field.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
• Other Requirements: Must be able to travel to District Offices and/or other work locations up to 50 miles away from the assigned work location for temporary assignment or reassignment to ensure continuity of service to clients. May be transferred to an assessment unit within the State to support the Division’s implementation and sustainability of Juvenile Justice Transformation legislation. Must be able to tele-work from home or other sites, as assigned. Must be able to work overtime or non-traditional hours as assigned to meet the needs of youth and families.

Pay

• JPPO III: $25.40-$34.14 hourly
• JPPO IV: $28.74-$38.85 hourly
