Job Duties

  • Enforces court orders and program rules;
  • Serves legal rights documentation;
  • Prepares reports on individuals from information gathered from various social service and legal professionals and agencies;
  • Prepares and completes required and related forms, records and documents;
  • Prepares cases and participates in hearings for court appearances;
  • Reviews and keeps all caseload records;
  • Formulates case plans and makes recommendations/referrals of probationary individuals;
  • Monitors court orders and diversion agreements for compliance;
  • Formulates response to non-compliance that may include court intervention;
  • Counsels and develops intervention plans;
  • Facilitates and refers to researched based programs for youth and/or parents offered by the Juvenile Court Services;
  • Leads, teaches and/or facilitates classes and interventions to youth /families;
  • Collaborates with community partners to further a rehabilitative culture for system-involved youth and families;
  • Collects, monitors and processes urinalysis testing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Motivational interviewing, diagnostic, and counseling techniques;
  • Crisis intervention skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office;
  • Washington state courts and juvenile justice system;
  • Child development theory;
  • Functions and resources of social and health services agencies;
  • Express ideas and recommendations effectively orally and in writing;
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, professionals, public and private officials and the public;
  • Diffuse potentially volatile situations;
  • Maintain detailed records and effectively organize case work;
  • Work with persons from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check;
  • Candidate must not have consumed cannabis in the 6 months prior to applying;
  • Minimum 2 years working with youth in a professional capacity, successful completion of Juvenile Services Academy and probationary period, and successfully certified on the Case Management Assessment Process (CMAP) for JPC II;
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the position of Juvenile Probation Counselor II with Island County or equivalent experience in a similar position with another agency. Thorough understanding and certification of the Case Management Assessment Process (CMAP) and could act as the Quality Assurance Specialist for Juvenile Court if requested. Capable of functioning as the Probation Manager in their absence.
