About the role

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking compassionate, committed, and resilient individuals to join our team as Juvenile Justice Specialists at levels 1, 2, or 3, depending on experience and qualifications. These professionals play a vital role in maintaining safety, promoting growth, and creating a stable environment where youth can learn, heal, and move forward.

Responsibilities

  • Receives on-the-job training in various areas of the unit by security and treatment personnel
  • Maintains locked doors and gates as per facility policy
  • Fulfills facility policies in control and prevention of contraband on grounds (youth, employees, and visitors)
  • Makes security checks of buildings, grounds, fences, doors, and gates to ensure the integrity of security is intact; refers problems and/or deficiencies to the proper authority
  • Maintains security and follows instructions in handling emergency situations such as riots, fire, etc.; maintains a level of functioning that does not induce panic among youth or employees
  • Institutes security measures when escorting youth inside and outside the facility

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in any field
  • At least 18 years of age
  • No felony convictions or charges pending
  • No history of sexual abuse or sexual activity facilitated by force or coercion
  • No conviction for engaging in sexual activity in a community or confinement setting
  • No conviction for engaging in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, or juvenile facility
  • No conviction for engaging in sexual activity in a community or confinement setting
  • No conviction for engaging in sexual activity in a community or confinement setting
  • No conviction for engaging in sexual activity in a community or confinement setting

Qualifications

  • Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)

Skills

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of juvenile justice systems and practices
  • Ability to handle crisis situations
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform physical tasks

Pay

The Juvenile Justice Specialist 1 (PS-105) has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,400.00 biweekly.
The Juvenile Justice Specialist 2 (PS-106) has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,504.00 biweekly.
The Juvenile Justice Specialist 3 (PS-108) has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,608.80 biweekly.

This position may be filled as a Juvenile Justice Specialist 1, 2, or 3.
