Responsibilities
- Processes intake of delinquent juveniles, including confirming jurisdiction, evaluating validity of complaint, performing interviews, determining action required, and preparing detailed legal documents, reports, and files.
- Receives and examines complaints and charges of delinquency, dependency, or need of services to consider commencement of proceedings.
- Reviews court records and orders; determines obligations of offenders; conducts intake interviews; collects and records case intake data.
- Obtains school records and family social history; performs drug screening; and transports juveniles as required.
- Manages and authorizes placement of juveniles into detention or protective custody (24-hour basis); ensures juvenile’s right to a timely hearing.
- Confers with law enforcement agencies and makes judicial probable cause determinations regarding delinquent cases.
- Authorizes juvenile’s medical treatment for life-threatening situations.
- Makes referrals regarding counseling, community service, tutoring, mentoring, and work readiness training.
- Documents case files and makes recommendations to the Lead Intake Officer for the Judge and District Attorney.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field required.
- Previous work experience preferred but not required; this classification is considered entry-level professional.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
