Juvenile Detention Supervisor
About the role
Manage and direct activities of a specific treatment unit, ensuring all Abraxas policies and procedures are followed. Serve as the primary role model for employees, leading, directing, guiding, and supporting them in promoting their growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Maintain employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage for safety.
- Develop and implement systems to organize and monitor work activities.
- Facilitate new employee on-the-job orientation.
- Conduct effective supervisory conferences and performance evaluations, documenting content and providing feedback.
- Schedule employee training to meet mandatory training requirements.
- Provide ongoing effective supervision to unit employees and monitor case management activities.
- Guide, mentor, and supervise youth and employees effectively.
- Interact with and supervise clients during daily activities to ensure their safety and security.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors and co-workers.
- Provide effective facility security, conduct headcounts, room checks, and observe client movement.
- Observe client behavior and intervene appropriately.
- Process intakes and screen clients according to program policy.
- Facilitate and document various groups or meetings, monitoring the documentation process to ensure all services are documented as necessary each shift.
- Provide structured behavioral interventions to reduce maladaptive behaviors and increase positive, adaptive skills.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and structured environment at all times.
- Use trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive approaches.
- Accurately observe and document client behaviors, progress, and responses to interventions.
- Collect and document behavioral data in accordance with program and regulatory standards.
- Assist in effective programming for all youth.
- Complete daily notes, incident reports, and other required documentation within required timeframes.
- Utilize approved crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Follow all safety protocols related to self-harm, aggression, and behavioral escalation.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or changes in client status immediately to supervisory/leadership staff.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, supervision, and required training.
- Support family engagement as directed by the treatment team.
- Maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and agency policies.
- Follow all Pennsylvania mandated reporter requirements.
- Maintain active certification, clearances, and required ongoing training.
- Comply with program/facility safety systems and building security.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with current departmental practices.
- Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promote the Seven Key Principles of care.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human services field and one-year experience in residential treatment is preferred, OR Associate’s degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college/university and three (3) years’ work experience with children.
- Supervisory experience is also preferred.
- At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Physical exams that include TB and drug testing.
- Pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
- Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Qualifications
