Juvenile Detention Officer I - Probation

About the role
This position requires successful completion of all training requirements established by the Arizona Supreme Court and the Probation Department. If applying for Deputy Probation Officer and/or Surveillance Officer roles, you must be medically and physically able to participate in the Defensive Tactics Training Academy, which includes:
- Minor aerobic activity
- Standing up to one (1) hour at a time
- Throwing punches (at partial speed)
- Use of impact weapons
- Kicking at targets below 24"
- Controlled falls
- Punch and kick drills (partial speed)
- Exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Willingness to work overtime, including weekends or holidays
- Willingness and ability to travel out-of-town if required
- Must provide details of high school and colleges attended, including major course of study and degree awarded
- Must disclose any job-related licenses, registrations, certificates, or professional memberships, including type, issuing authority, numbers, and expiration dates
- Must successfully complete fingerprinting and a criminal background investigation
- Additional pre-employment requirements may include a drug screen, credit check, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation
- Must sign a Loyalty Oath and provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States
Disclosures and Certifications
Applicants must disclose past drug usage as part of the application process. Any "Yes" answers to questions about drug-related activities (questions 8–34) require a full explanation, including:
- Number of times used
- Number of times used after age 21
- Date first used
- Date last used
- Method of ingestion or consumption
- Duration of usage
- Motivation for use
- How the drug was obtained
- Reason for stopping use
- Any other relevant factors
Answers will be verified through a polygraph, and a "Yes" response may not automatically disqualify an applicant.
Applicants must also disclose:
- Any convictions related to sexual abuse (will be evaluated in relation to the position)
- Any civil or administrative adjudications related to sexual misconduct or harassment (will be evaluated in relation to the position)
- Any investigations or findings related to sexual abuse, staff sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment, including:
- The allegation
- When the investigation was conducted
- Where the investigation was conducted
