About the role

The State of North Carolina's Department of Public Safety seeks a Juvenile Detention Center Supervisor to join our team. The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention works to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by intervening, educating, and treating youth to strengthen families and enhance public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to direct care staff responsible for the safety and security of pre- and post-adjudicated delinquents, status offenders, and juveniles bound over to Superior Court.
  • Assist in the hiring of staff, the training and orientation of new employees, the assignment of work, performance management, and ensuring staff meet and maintain certification requirements and comply with policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with juveniles, requiring close personal and physical contact.
  • Manage personnel responsibilities including scheduling, performance evaluations, and compliance with state regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to work schedule, including 3rd shift, holidays, nights, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution with two years of experience working with the juvenile/family client population and/or related human services experience, one year of which must have been in a secure or residential treatment facility.
  • Experience: Four years of experience working with the juvenile/family client population and/or related human services experience, one year of which must have been in a secure or residential treatment facility.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of institutional programming techniques for delinquent juveniles, various treatment and rehabilitative modalities, and experience working with juveniles.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license upon hire.

Pay

$43,267 - $75,718

Schedule

This is a full-time position for 3rd shift, requiring working holidays, nights, and weekends on a rotating basis.
