About the role

The Department of Public Safety’s Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is committed to reducing and preventing juvenile delinquency by effectively intervening, educating, and treating youth to strengthen families and increase public safety. We are looking for passionate professionals to provide intake and supervision services for undisciplined and delinquent juveniles across multiple counties in District 29, including Henderson, Rutherford, McDowell, Transylvania, and Polk.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process allegations of delinquent and undisciplined behavior.
• Assess risks and needs of juveniles to ensure community security and juvenile well-being.
• Develop diversion plans to keep youth out of formal court intervention when appropriate.
• Make court recommendations, including secure detention when warranted.
• Provide case management for youths on probation to ensure delivery of services and compliance with court orders.
• Deliver aftercare, case management, and post-release supervision for juveniles returning to the community after commitment to a youth development center.

Requirements

• Master’s degree and 12 months of related experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 24 months of related experience.
• All work history and education must be documented on the state application.
• Supplemental questions must reference education or work experience listed on the application.

Qualifications

• Experience navigating complex family dynamics in support of family-centered care.
• Experience with case management documentation in accordance with professional organizational standards.
• Experience working with socioeconomic and psychosocial issues that contribute to at-risk juveniles.
• Experience using the System of Care approach to address factors contributing to juvenile delinquency.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. hours. Candidates must be available for on-call hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis, and able to work a variable schedule to meet the needs of juveniles and their families.

• Step 1: $51,518
• Step 2: $54,869

• Step 4: $62,233
• Step 5: $66,278
• Step 6: $70,586

Initial salary is based on total months of related education and experience above the minimum requirements. Pay increases annually up to Step 6, and promotional opportunities are available.
