Junior Specialist- Clelland Lab
About the role
The Junior Specialist position is open for the Clelland Lab at the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The lab aims to develop novel therapies for neurodegenerative diseases such as dementias and ALS through basic mechanisms research and CRISPR gene editing in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), iPSC-derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia. Collaborations with the UC Berkeley Innovative Genomics Institute are also a part of the lab's activities.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead experiments independently
- Develop new ideas and participate in lab meetings
- Procure funding for projects as needed
- Assist with managing day-to-day lab operations
- Perform general lab duties
- Act as a positive lab citizen
Requirements
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
- Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
- At least 2 years of wet lab experience
- Experience with iPSC cell modeling or CRISPR gene editing or advanced molecular biology
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
- A background or research in bioinformatics or use of bioinformatic tools

Pay and Benefits
Salary competitive and commensurate with experience. See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000- $58,600.
