About the role

We are looking for a Power Systems Consultant or Senior Power Systems Consultant to join Grid Software’s Power Technologies International (PTI) team. In this dynamic position, you will apply your expertise to conduct large-scale power system studies and simulations. Your critical work will directly support the electric grid planning and the reliable integration of renewable energy resources, battery storage solutions, and significant large loads into the electrical grid for a diverse portfolio of clients, including leading renewable developers, power producers, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and transmission providers.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting in-depth power system studies: Performing steady-state/power flow analysis, short circuit studies, and transient stability analysis to evaluate the reliable integration of renewable generation, battery energy storage, and large loads into the grid.
  • Developing comprehensive technical reports: Preparing detailed written reports that clearly articulate study scope, assumptions, methodologies, conclusions, and actionable recommendations.
  • Ensuring project success through effective communication: Collaborating closely with project managers and study teams, communicating scope and status proactively, and delivering high-quality work on time and within budget.
  • Driving efficiency through innovation: Developing automation scripts and tools to enhance the speed, accuracy, and reliability of simulations and analyses.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering with a strong specialization in Power and Energy Systems required. An advanced degree, e.g., MS, PhD, can substitute 1 year of experience.
  • Experience:
    • Junior: A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience within the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, ISOs/RTOs, developers, or National Labs.
    • Senior: 5+ years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, ISOs/RTOs, developers, or National Labs.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Junior: Demonstrated foundational experience from at least one of the areas, including transmission planning and/or operations, generator modeling, and generator interconnection studies with experience using at least two of the industry-standard analysis tools such as PSS®E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, or similar software.
    • Senior: Extensive and proven expertise transmission planning and/ or operations, generator modeling, and generator interconnection studies, experienced user of multiple tools including PSS®E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, and others.
  • Ability to travel 5% domestically each year.

Preferred qualifications

  • Consulting Competency: Previous experience working in a power system consulting environment, demonstrating client-facing skills and project delivery expertise.
  • Advanced Analytical Depth:
    • Junior: Some experience with advanced power system analyses, including power flow/ steady-state analysis, dynamic stability, and short circuit studies.
    • Senior: Extensive and proven experience in performing and interpreting complex power flow/ steady-state analysis, dynamic stability, and short circuit studies.
  • Continuous Technical Development (Senior): Demonstrated experience in evaluating the transient stability of large, interconnected transmission systems, while using tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, or TSAT.
  • Higher Education: An advanced degree (master’s degree or PhD) in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power and Energy Systems.
  • Automation & Scripting Prowess: Proven experience in developing scripts (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to automate the execution, post-processing, and analysis of power system simulations, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Expertise in ISO/RTOs in the US.

Pay and Schedule

The pay range for this position is $68,830 - $143,942 annually with a target incentive of 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
